
ALLYSON HOP
Soprano
Although exposed to a variety of music from an early age, Allyson fell in love with opera at eleven years old after seeing Carlisle Floyd's Susannah and understanding the power of art. She decided to pursue performing and hopes to continue for years to come.
BIO
Soprano, Allyson Hop holds a Master’s degree in Opera from the University of British Columbia. While receiving her undergraduate degree under the tutelage of Benjamin Butterfield, Allyson won the 2010 University of Victoria Concerto competition. She has performed roles including Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro; Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica; La Modista in Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze; Mařenka in Prodaná nevěsta; La Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro; Donna Anna in Don Giovanni; and the titular role in Rusalka.
In 2016, Allyson was honoured to portray the role of Grandmother in the touring production of Stickboy with Vancouver Opera in Schools. She then had the opportunity to participate in the inaugural season of the Vancouver Opera Festival and continues to sing with the Company. This season, Allyson performed in their production of The Pearl Fishers and can be seen in their upcoming production of The Flying Dutchman.
Tapping into her love of lieder, Allyson and pianist, Karl Hirzer presented An Evening of Art Song at the National Music Centre in 2019. She was delighted to collaborate with Hirzer again alongside Stefan Maier in 2021 on a new work as part of Stingray's Classical Artist Residency at Studio Bell.
Most recently, Allyson was thrilled to perform her first Verdi role as Elizabeth in Don Carlo with Heroic Opera.
